My name is Angel Palmer and I am preparing to embark on the journey of a lifetime. I have a beautiful Black Tennessee Walking Horse named Monte who has proven himself capable of amazing feats. Together we will travel across arid desert, through wooded forests, over grassy wildernesses, and pass many mountain peaks of what is known as the Pacific Crest Trail. The trail in it's entirety is about 2,650 miles long extending from Campo, CA at the Mexican Border through Oregon and Washington ending at the Canadian border.
Many people have asked how I came to decide to do this trip, and that answer is simple. I was riding in Lakeside with my friend Margo and we came upon an extraordinary woman named Lisa Woods and her three horses. Lisa shared with us that she had ridden her mustang across the united states from CA to North Carolina. She then went on to tell of her adventure up the California coast to Oregon on her Quarter/Appaloosa horse. Lisa inspired me. She had accomplished these journeys by herself and I realized it was time for me to do something of this sort. I was going to hike the PCT on horseback- solo. I plan to begin at the border in Campo, and go to Ashland, Oregon this year and finish next year the Oregon/ Washington segment.
This may not seem a huge task for some, but I neglected to mention my experience with hiking and camping. I have virtually none. I simply have determination, drive and a tenacious attitude to want to spend time with my horse exploring the western frontier before it disappears. I plan to write of my journey and share it in a reference book for dummies: horseback hiking the PCT for dummies. |
